Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is a “full-service agency” that provides law enforcement, jail, court security, and civil processing services to all areas of unincorporated Pierce County, and the contract cities of Edgewood and University Place.
The Sheriff’s Office is comprised of 638 commissioned law enforcement and corrections staff and 67 civilian personnel. Together, these dedicated employees support our three bureaus, including Services, Corrections, Operations.

This rewarding and vital support position performs varied accounting tasks that impact the day-to-day operations of the department. When fully staffed, the Business Unit is a six-person team, who currently work day shifts, Monday – Friday. Employees can work a flexible schedule and receive paid holidays off.

This is fiscal support work in the accounting field for the Pierce County Sheriff Office. An employee in this classification is responsible for budget and accounting support work requiring broad knowledge of accounting principles and practices. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSTO APPLY:
- Two or more years of progressively responsible bookkeeping, accounting, auditing or closely-related work experience or substituting on a month for month basis, successful completion of course work in bookkeeping, accounting or closely related subjects relevant to the requirements of the position for a maximum of one year experience requirement.
- High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate is required.
- United States citizenship, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient and the ability to speak, read and write the English language as required by RCW 41.14.100.
- Ability to successfully complete Pierce County Sheriff Office background investigation, which will include, but is not limited to:
- Reference Checks
- Personal Interviews
- Oral Board Interview
- Pre-Offer Polygraph Examination
- Submission of Fingerprints
- Work History Check
- Criminal, Driving, and Financial History Checks
- Pre-Offer Drug Screening UA
- After the closing date, qualified applicants will receive an email with a link to an experience and training assessment.
- Individuals attaining a passing score of 70% or higher on the Accounting Assistant 2 assessment will be placed on the Civil Service register in order of final score.

Veteran Scoring Criteria will be granted in accordance with RCW 41.04.
