Position Overview

The City of Ruston is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented professional to serve as a Confidential Police Administrative Specialist. This trusted role provides critical administrative support to the Police Department, manages sensitive information, serves as the Public Records Officer, and oversees weekly traffic court hearings. The position reports directly to the Chief of Police and plays a key part in maintaining the efficiency, integrity, and responsiveness of department operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and process criminal justice information, case files, and daily operational records
  • Provide administrative support for criminal and administrative investigations
  • Serve as the department’s Public Records Officer, overseeing public records requests and retention schedules, and assist with the City Clerk’s public records requests as needed
  • Coordinate weekly traffic court hearings, including scheduling, preparation of documentation, and recordkeeping
  • Support department projects, data systems, and communication with partner agencies
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience performing varied administrative tasks in a professional environment
  • Proficiency with modern office software, including the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive law enforcement background investigation, including:
    • Interviews with references and former employers
    • Credit and criminal history review
    • Certified polygraph examination
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher (may be substituted with two years of clerical, administrative, or record-keeping experience in a government, legal, or criminal justice setting)
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal criminal justice records or data systems
  • Knowledge of judicial hearings and processes.
