Project Engineer

As the Project Engineer, you will onsite in Washington and will provide technical, administrative, and field-level support to the Construction and Project Management team to ensure successful execution of construction projects at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). You are responsible for maintaining accurate project documentation and reporting, supporting schedule and subcontract administration, coordinating with field personnel, and assisting with quality control and compliance activities.
You play a key role in supporting project performance, documentation integrity, and communication between field operations, project management, and external stakeholders.
How will you do it?
- Prepare and maintain daily project reporting including timekeeping, environmental and permit compliance documentation, and daily construction logs.
- Create, organize, and maintain project records including inspection reports, job diaries, photographs, video logs, and subcontractor documentation.
- Assist with submittal preparation, tracking, and log management, including RFIs, shop drawings, material submittals, and approvals.
- Support Requests for Information (RFI) development, tracking, and response coordination between field teams, design teams, and owners.
- Provide field inspections and work activity logging as required to support quality control and progress verification.
- Support oversight of field craft personnel to ensure work is performed accurately, safely, and in accordance with the project schedule and specifications.
- Assist the Construction Manager, Project Manager, Quality Control staff, and Superintendent with job-related administrative, technical, and coordination tasks.
- Prepare professional correspondence, reports, and project documentation as needed.
- Assist the Construction Manager with updates to project schedules and progress tracking.
- Maintain effective communication and coordination among all internal team members, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Participate in project meetings, including subcontractor coordination meetings, safety meetings, and owner meetings as required.
- Conduct project searches on government internet platforms to support business development and opportunity tracking.
- Draft complex documents in response to Sources Sought and assist with requests for vendor and subcontractor pre-qualification packages.
- Track, coordinate, and administer subcontracts and purchase orders under the direction of project management.
- Support closeout documentation, including as-builts, O&M manuals, warranties, and turnover packages.
- Ensure executed contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders are properly filed and maintained in official project records.
- Assist with schedule impact analysis related to delays, material lead times, and subcontractor performance.
- Review subcontractor and vendor invoices for proper coding and verify charges against subcontract and purchase order values.
- Perform expediting activities as required to support timely material delivery and subcontractor performance.
- Support safety documentation and coordination, including daily JHAs, toolbox talks, and incident documentation when needed.
- Support and participate in quality control specialist duties, including documentation, inspections, and corrective action tracking.
- Ensure compliance with federal contract requirements, including documentation standards, site access requirements, and military installation protocols.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Supervisory Functions:
This position may direct the work of craft and other project workers as needed and directed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of engineering concepts and construction-related activities.
- Knowledge of job costing, project controls, and basic accounting procedures.
- Background in administrative and accounting functions supporting construction projects.
- Knowledge of federal construction project documentation requirements, including submittals, RFIs, daily reports, and quality control records.
- Understanding of construction safety practices and military installation safety requirements.
- Ability to work within secure military installations and comply with site access protocols.
