The Simulation Lab Faculty Coordinator provides comprehensive instruction to practical nursing program students in the simulation lab. Incumbent will participate collaboratively and professionally with faculty and staff to apply and evaluate application of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning's (INASCL) Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice (HSSOBP) to all aspects of the simulation program. The role requires the ability to visualize and pursue opportunities to enhance the skills laboratory teaching environment;
coordinate academic activities to facilitate success of all students in simulation-based learning experiences (SBLEs): interface effectively with nursing faculty, college staff, and students; and remain current in INACSL's HSSOBP and in healthcare simulation practices more generally.
This position is full-time, based on 214 day, 7-hour workdays per year. This is a non-tenure track grant-funded, limited-term position which may be renewed depending upon funding. Position will be posted until filled.
Essential Functions
* Analyze and apply current and best evidence-based practices in all aspects of the following job responsibilities.
* Facilitate the application of INASCL's HSSBOP in all aspects of the simulation program. Evaluate the application. Use the evaluation for continuous quality improvement of the program.
* Work to obtain and maintain accreditation or certification of the simulation program by a Washington State Board of Nursing approved organization.
* Pursue formal simulation education and training in the form of simulation education programs, graduate level certificates and degrees, simulation education certification, and continuing education in simulation pedagogy.
* Obtain and maintain Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or CHSE-Advanced (CHSE-A) certification.
* In collaboration with the director of nursing, facilitate educational needs assessments of simulation faculty, professional development to address identified needs, and evaluation of needs being addressed.
* Support simulation faculty in obtaining and maintaining CHSE or CHSE-A certification.
* In collaboration with the director of nursing create, oversee, revise, and enforce simulation-based policies and procedures to support and sustain the simulation program.
* In collaboration with the director of nursing create, oversee, revise, and enforce the application of a simulation program strategic plan.
* In collaboration with the director of nursing, maintain up-to-date documentation ensuring simulation faculty have specific knowledge and skills in simulation pedagogy; the facilitation of SBL is appropriate to the level of learning, experience, and competency of the learners; and the facilitation occurs through the SBLE which aims to support students in achieving expected outcomes.
* In collaboration with the director of nursing, maintain and apply a written plan to orient, mentor, and evaluate simulation faculty.
* Follow and ensure simulation faculty compliance with the Society for Simulation's (SSH) Healthcare Simulations' Code of Ethics.
* Ensure SBLEs are student-centered, and evidence based; aligned with appropriate and measurable student learning objectives; designed to include context and the appropriate level of fidelity; and supportive of the students' psychological safety.
* Maintain, revise, and apply a written plan for evaluation of students, SBLEs, and facilitation of SBLEs. Use evaluation findings for continuous quality improvement.
* Ensure program compliance with applicable WACs, including WAC and WAC .
* In collaboration with simulation faculty create, monitor, revise, and troubleshoot simulation-based courses' canvas pages and assignments.
* Write, develop and update course curriculum documentation, including learning objectives, competencies, lesson plans and content by analyzing industry needs in the field of nursing and needs-assessments of the program
* Perform program needs assessments to identify needed SBL objectives, then find or create appropriate SBL scenarios and associated material.
* In collaboration with the Director of Nursing and the Simulation Operations and Lab Specialist:
* Coordinate scheduling of simulation activities.
* Maintain simulation equipment with referrals out to third party vendors for maintenance.
* Address budget needs
* Facilitate demonstrations for classes and visitors.
* Liaise with vendors and industry representatives to troubleshoot technical issues and solicit training and assistance for program faculty and staff.
* Participate in scheduled faculty and technology meetings.
* Participate in periodic in-service training programs
* Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements
