SUMMARY: Assists Special Education Teacher in delivery of educational services indicated in students Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Positive Behavioral Support Plan (PBSP) within RISE/Day Treatment programs operated by Lewiston Public Schools.
Salary Range: $20.06 - $27.04

- Able to facilitate 1:1, 1:2 and small group instruction while meeting the needs of complex learners. Includes all academic and social opportunities throughout the day, such as lunch, recess, hallway transitions, breaks with peers, and transportation. Essentially, a RISE/DT Ed. Tech is always with their student(s), unless otherwise indicated by the IEP and/or Special Education Teacher direction.
- Able to implement and follow an IEP and PBSP, including responsible implementation of de-escalation strategies throughout the day.
- Assist with setup of classroom, individual student area, and preparation of materials for specialized instruction.
- Collect relevant data and perform data entry.
- Assist in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current as requested.
- Operates standard school equipment such as computer, laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
- Responsible for following day-to-day schedule of students.
- Constant attention required for 1:1 and other direct services in RISE/DT, including refraining from cell phone use except during personal breaks, wearing closed-toe shoes, following PBSP precautions and being calm in unforeseen circumstances.
- Teamwork is imperative. Written communication must be legible, professional, and in the best interest of students.
- Verbal communication: feedback delivered to improve skill and increase job knowledge; directions and recommendations from Special Education Teacher, BCBA, Clinician, and school administration are followed to the greatest extent possible; communication between Ed Techs is appropriate to the environment and audience.
Instruction in RISE/DT classroom with Special Education Teacher with 1:1, 1:2 and small groups in RISE/DT and General Education classrooms as indicated.

Education and ExperienceThree years postsecondary education and/or the accumulation of 90 credit hours of approved study in a related area. (For vocational education, three years of work experience in the field.)
This is essential for Education Technician III certification required by Maine DOE and for (School Based) Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) certification.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend technical educational instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information in 1:1, 1:2 and small group situations to students, co-teachers, and other school personnel as appropriate.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute mean, rate, ratio, and percent; draw bar and line graphs.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to follow complex educational and behavioral treatment plans; find solutions within scope of applicable laws, Applied Behavior Analysis methods, QBS, and Safety Care.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Previous work in child care and/or education is preferred; develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School committee policies; advocate for inclusion of RISE students within the General Education setting.
