Additional Information
This is a temporary position for the school year only or until the employee returns from leave, whichever occurs first. The anticipated duration of the leave of absence is January 6, 2026 - April 22, 2026.
This position requires completion and attainment of the state mandated General Para educator Certificate. The Para educator Certificate Program offers statewide standards-based training for all para educator/Education Support Professionals (ESP), and supports a career growth ladder for those who wish to advance their career as a para educator or pursue a teaching profession. Staff will be required to complete 28 hours of training on the Fundamental Course of Study provided by the district.
The first two days of FCS training must be completed within four months of the hire date, and the second two days within six months of the hire date, or by September 1 of the next school year. The general certificate is earned by completing ten days (70 clock hours) of professional development training.
This position assists a certificated teacher with instructional and personal care needs for students with a broad range of disabilities, including medically fragile, orthopedically impaired, developmental, physical, and/or behavioral needs. The position provides academic interventions and may include assisting students with activities of daily living.
Essential Job Functions
Provides instruction to students individually or in small groups in assigned learning or center activities per direction of teacher; may implement lesson/activity assigned by specialists; provides assistance as necessary to students with sensory or physical handicaps; promotes and monitors a safe learning environment; may perform vocational training with students; may assist students with job hunting skills and job applications; encourages participation in learning activities.May instruct students in self-care activities or assist with feeding, dressing, toileting; may perform diapering/toileting assistance; assist with basic personal care and adaptive equipment; may restrain and calm students as needed; monitor seizures and other emergencies; may administer and log medications as assigned, as trained by the licensed school nurse or therapist.Supervises students during recess or lunch; may supervise locker/shower rooms and restrooms; assists with bus loading/unloading; may instruct bus drivers on student support and safety; may transport students as needed.Records student progress, maintains communication with classroom staff, assists in assessing students, communicates with parents/guardians, and maintains student records; collects data for IEP goals, behavioral plans, grooming plans, and academic progress.May adjust position of students with physical disabilities for comfort; implement occupational/physical therapy as instructed; use basic sign language as needed; monitors student safety.May prepare and serve meals and snacks; may clean dishes and eating areas after meals.Models and reinforces appropriate behavior; assists in classroom management and discipline per district guidelines.Assists in adapting materials; may assist in administering standardized tests; uses teaching techniques and adaptive equipment to meet needs; arranges classroom furniture; may accompany students on field trips or off-site activities; may support students in general education classes.Participates in department staff meetings; provides information regarding students.May use adaptive equipment and assist in maintaining/repairing equipment; coordinates computer activities for students with disabilities; schedules equipment use.Demonstrates reliable attendance and adheres to district policies on tardiness and absences.Addresses concerns with appropriate staff and administrators as appropriate.Other
