One-year visiting assistant professor in Hispanic Studies for the academic year.
Responsibilities:
Teach six courses for the year, to include two sections of an introductory language course, two sections of an intermediate language course, and one upper-division course taught in Spanish each semester, based on the candidate's scholarly interests.
Qualifications:
A doctoral degree (ABD considered) in Spanish. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and pedagogy focuses on 20th and 21st-century Latina/o and Latin American literature, cinema and media, particularly in a transnational framework. Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate Spanish language courses and a commitment to liberal arts education are required. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and proficiency in English.

Assistant Professor salaries in begin at $73,904 annualized for an assistant professor without a terminal degree in their field in their first year of full-time post-doctorate teaching through $83,262 annualized based on experience.

About the department:
The Department of Hispanic Studies offers a sound educational experience centered on the study of the language as well as the literary and cultural production of Iberian, Latin American, and U.S. Latina/o cultures. We offer three major tracks in Language, Culture & Literature, Hispanic International Studies, and Latina/o Studies, along with a minor in Spanish and an interdisciplinary minor in Latina/o Studies.
We complement our program of study with a host of co-curricular activities that include guest lectures, film screenings, workshops with artists, and engagement with the local community in Tacoma. Consisting of six full-time colleagues - four tenure-track and two instructors - we are a close-knit group committed to working closely with our students.
