Appointment: The University of Puget Sound School of Occupational Therapy invites applications for a full-time, in-person clinical assistant faculty position for the academic year .

Description

We are seeking a doctorally-prepared occupational therapist who values experiential learning, has a strong grounding in the use of occupation-based theory to guide clinical reasoning, and is experienced with implementing the occupational therapy process, utilizing evidence to inform clinical decision making, and translating research and evidence into practice. The School of Occupational Therapy uses a co‑teaching model, thus a strong value for collaboration, teamwork, collegiality and communication are essential.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this tenure line position is teaching in our entry‑level MSOT and OTD programs. Standard teaching assignment is six units per year (~24 semester credits per year). Teaching responsibility may include the following: research methods, ergonomics, assistive technology, seating & positioning, anatomy, biomechanics, evidence‑based practice and theory foundations, pediatrics, job analysis and work hardening. Other duties may include supervision of student evidence and doctoral capstone projects;

participation in departmental service; engaging in curriculum evaluation and development; participating in continuous and periodic self‑study activities to maintain program accreditation, as directed by the department; and engaging in an agenda of productive scholarly work.

  • Prepare, teach, review, and revise assigned courses while assuring their alignment with the overall curriculum
  • Pursue excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship
  • Maintain a commitment to delivering culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices
  • Collaborate and effectively communicate with colleagues and students within an in‑person educational program
  • Demonstrate agreement with the missions of the University of Puget Sound and the School of Occupational Therapy
  • Display professionalism and fulfill responsibilities in a manner consistent with the expectations of the University of Puget Sound School of Occupational Therapy
  • Other duties as identified in the School of Occupational Therapy Departmental Evaluation Guidelines
Minimum Qualifications
  • Expertise in clinical practice as demonstrated by three or more years of full time professional OT clinical experience or equivalent;
  • Experience teaching at any academic level within at least one course;
  • Doctoral degree in OT or a related field*;
  • Experience mentoring and/or advising students;
  • Commitment to culturally responsive, inclusive teaching, and community engagement
  • Strong commitment to liberal arts education; and
  • Have, or qualify for, a Washington State Occupational Therapist license.
  • Candidates who are near completion of a research or post‑professional doctorate, will be considered
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in an ACOTE accredited program
  • Experience with evidence‑based research skills, ergonomics, assistive technology, pediatrics, anatomy, biomechanics, clinic coordination, and seating & positioning
  • Experience in teaching foundational coursework within an OT program

Faculty salaries at the University of Puget Sound are based on a common salary scale based on experience. Assistant Professor salaries for  begin at $84,076 annualized for an Assistant Professor with a terminal degree in their field in their first year of full‑time postdoctoral teaching through $94,086 annualized based on experience.
