Position Highlights

Responsible for preparing and teaching courses typically offered at Tacoma Community College, including:

  • English Composition I
  • English Composition II:
    Argument and Persuasion
  • English Composition III:
    Writing about Literature
Essential Functions
  • Prepare, teach, and assess outcomes in assigned courses in accordance with department and college standards.
  • Assess student learning and use data to improve teaching and learning.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the field of composition and effective pedagogy.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in English, English Composition/Rhetoric, Technical Communication, Developmental Studies, Education, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
Conditions of Employment
  • Successfully complete a criminal history background check prior to employment.

Terms of Employment

Part‑time faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Salary is based per credit hour (starting at  1,244.36– 1,457.68, subject to approved COLAs). Professional services hours paid  per hour. Part‑time faculty may become eligible for health‑care and retirement benefits after two consecutive quarters of half‑time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions. Eligible faculty receive a personal leave day per academic year, sick leave based on full‑time equivalent teaching, and comprehensive health‑care benefits if eligibility criteria are met.
