Position SummaryThis Part-Time Faculty position is responsible for preparing and teaching courses in US History, Pacific Northwest History, and/or Native American History for the History Department. The position reports to the Dean for Educational, Social & Behavioral Sciences (ESBS) and collaborates with the History/Philosophy/Political Science Program Chair and faculty.
Essential Functions- Prepares and instructs transfer-level courses in US History, Pacific Northwest History, and/or Native American History in in-person, online, and/or hybrid modalities. Courses may include: HIST& 146, US History I; HIST& 147, US History II; HIST& 148, US History III; HIST& 214, Pacific Northwest History; HIST& 219, Native American History.
- Provides course-related communication and support via scheduled office hours and email.
- Utilizes the college LMS, Canvas, for engagement across all modalities.
- Complies with state and federal law and follows established administrative procedures (syllabi, grades, bookstore orders, etc.).
- Participates in the college's professional development and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion events.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in history or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience in a diverse environment, with activities that promote equity and student success.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate coursework in history including US History and/or Pacific Northwest History.
- Experience teaching at a community college and/or at the freshman & sophomore levels.
- Experience using online classroom platforms (e.g., Angel, Blackboard) as classroom support and learning tools.

- Successful completion of a criminal history background check prior to employment.

This is a part-time faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Salary is paid per credit hour and ranges from $1,244.36 to $1,457.68 per credit hour, subject to applicable COLAs. Lab credit hours may be paid at 50% of the credit hour rate. Professional Services hours are paid at a flat rate of $46.00 per hour. Placement on the salary schedule aligns with education and experience per the 2024 Faculty Negotiated Agreement.
Part-time faculty may be eligible for health care and retirement benefits after two consecutive quarters of half-time or more employment. Benefits details are provided on the employment page.
Evening and off-campus assignments may be part of the instructional load. Degrees must be from accredited institutions and verified for U.S. equivalency. International degrees will be verified for U.S. equivalency.
