POSITION HOURS AND PAY
Hours: 7 hours per day
Days: 178 days per year
For the first year: 7 hours/day for 4 days per week; thereafter: 2 days per week until certification is completed.
Pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 - $24.76 (25-26 PSE SALARY SCHEDULE)

REQUIRED TRAINING
- Type II driver training from the district.
- Right Response Training within 3-5 months of hire; renewal annually prior to expiration.
- Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and General Para educator Certificate per State requirements.

Federal Minimum Employment Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Hold high school diploma or equivalent.
- One of the following:
- Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment.
- AA degree or higher.
- Earned seventy-two (72) quarter credits or forty-eight (48) semester credits at an accredited institution of higher education.
- Completion of registered apprenticeship program offered by the Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries.
- Successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program.

Description
Assist certificated staff with instructional and non‑instructional activities for students in Special Education, including instructing students individually or in small groups, monitoring and documenting student behavior and progress, and supervising student work skills, care and personal hygiene.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Instructs students individually or in small groups in a variety of learning activities to promote understanding of materials presented. Provides encouragement, reinforcement and achievement of educational objectives and goals defined by certificated staff. May administer and supervise tests or other measurements under direction of certificated staff.Communicates with certificated staff concerning individual student progress; adjusts methods to meet the needs of students with a variety of disabilities; consults with district certificated staff concerning developing work tasks and monitoring progress.Assists certificated staff in maintaining records, logs, charts, assignments and other records for measurement of student progress. May correct, score or grade papers and assignments according to guidelines or instructions.Supervises student behavior in classrooms, playgrounds, halls, at lunch or breaks, at bus boarding areas, on field trips and at other sites to promote safe, appropriate behavior. Corrects behaviors and maintains discipline according to established policies and procedures. Instructs students in behavioral rules and codes for student safety, socialization and individual growth.Assists students with interpersonal and personal skills mastery including work tasks, daily living skills, and skill development; training in use of tools safely and correctly. Helps feed students and teaches social aspects of eating with others.Establishes and maintains effective communication with students, staff, parents and the public for student progress and safety, and community relations.May provide physical assistance to students with handicaps, such as appropriate lifting and positioning, or assistance with personal hygiene.Monitors need for first aid for injured or ill students and refers for treatment as appropriate. Monitors students for medical risks, such as seizures and behaviors that may result in harm to themselves or others.Drives students to work sites and other school related sites.OTHER FUNCTIONS
Locates, prepares and/or modifies materials for student use, enrichment activities and special projects under the direction of certificated staff.Prepares, duplicates, collates and distributes materials; operates a variety of office equipment.Maintains physical appearance of classroom and other assigned areas; maintains, assembles and stores playground equipment as assigned; maintains supplies as assigned.Alerts qualified district staff to student problems.Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the school principal or assigned administrator. Receives guidance from assigned teacher or program specialist.
