The HVAC Instructor is open to full‑time or part time on site based at the UEI College campus in Tacoma Washington. This role is responsible for delivering engaging classroom and lab instruction that prepares students for entry‑level HVAC careers, including teaching core concepts, safety practices, and hands‑on skills. The HVAC Instructor develops lesson plans aligned with program outcomes, evaluates student performance through assignments, tests, and practical assessments, and provides constructive feedback to support student success.
Daily responsibilities include maintaining a safe and organized lab environment, ensuring proper use and care of tools and equipment, and updating curricular content to reflect current industry standards. The instructor also participates in staff meetings, collaborates with colleagues to improve program quality, and supports student advising, attendance, and retention efforts.
- Technical and trade skills:
Candidates should possess 3 or more years experience in HVAC systems, including installation, repair, and maintenance, as well as working knowledge of plumbing where applicable. - Diagnostic and maintenance skills:
Candidates should possess strong troubleshooting abilities and preventive maintenance skills to teach students how to identify issues and perform routine system care. - Service and communication skills:
Candidates should possess effective customer service skills, clear communication, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts in an accessible way. - Education and experience:
Candidates should possess prior field experience in HVAC (and related trades) and, ideally, prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience in a classroom, lab, or on-the-job setting. - Credentials:
Candidates should possess relevant HVAC certifications or licenses as required by local and state regulations; EPA certification is highly preferred. - Professional competencies:
Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, basic computer proficiency, the ability to follow institutional policies, and a commitment to student‑centered instruction and safety. - Work environment readiness:
Candidates should possess the ability to work on‑site in a lab setting, lift and move equipment as needed, and adhere to all safety and compliance standards.
