Para educator Position
Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a para educator to provide one-on-one assistance to a Grade 4 female student with a disability in all school activities and day-to-day needs during the school day; assists a certificated teacher with instructional and non-instructional activities for the assigned student and other classroom students as time permits.
This position requires completion and attainment of the state mandated General Para educator Certificate. Staff will be required to complete 28 hours of training on the Fundamental Course of Study provided by the district.
The essential job functions include providing instruction to students individually or in small groups, supervising students during recess or lunch periods, recording student progress, modeling positive behavior for students, and assisting teacher in adapting materials and activities.
Other job duties may include performing cleansing intermittent catheterizations, providing general clerical assistance, supervising students in the classroom during teacher's brief breaks, and performing related duties as assigned.
The position requires a minimum of an associate degree or 72 credit hours of post-secondary education, CPR/First Aid certification, and successful background clearance. Knowledge of assigned developmental, behavioral, and/or physical disabilities, effective instructional methods for students with disabilities, safe and proper methods of lifting and positioning of students, and ability to maintain confidentiality are also required.
