Overall Responsibilities

The following expectations and job description are the minimal expectation for teachers at Life Christian Academy. The primary role of a teacher at Life Christian Academy is to teach students to know and love Jesus Christ through ethics, respect, academics, and programs.

  • Practice love, joy, patience, kindness, self-control, gentleness, faithfulness, and truthfulness
  • Model Biblical principles in making choices to impact students
  • Adherence to the faculty and staff professional dress code as determined by the school administration
  • Actively supervise students in Chapel to ensure attention and engagement and assist maintain a positive culture
  • Enforce all school policies and processes, including dress policy, mobile phone policy, behavior expectations
  • Attend morning staff devotions currently 7:50am to 8:05am one day per week
  • Articulate in writing and speaking how the teacher’s Christian faith integrates with his or her teaching
  • Instructional planning, translating the school’s student outcomes into specific objectives
  • Select and use curricular materials that will help students achieve these outcomes
  • Practice integration in unit planning and teaching, both biblically and across subject
  • Plan and use a variety of teaching strategies to match the learning styles of the students
  • Select in advance the means of assessment to measure students’ learning
  • Facilitate class participation in benchmark testing and/or use the data from the tests to modify instruction based on need
  • Use class time well with activities that engage students’ attention and demonstrate a clear purpose
  • Give clear directions and well-organized examples and explanations
  • Be available to any parent or student who wishes to have a conference
  • Participate in school scheduled parent/teacher conferences
  • Provide tutorialsfor students before and after school as needed
  • Use questions and explanations that promote clear thinking
  • Compose a working syllabus and scope and sequence for each class subject and make professional adjustments as necessary to meet the needs of individual learners
  • Complete paperwork including academic progress reports, report cards four times per year, complete inventories of classroom equipment/supplies/books, records of attendance, administration of achievement tests, end of year debriefing evaluation forms
  • Provide families with a comprehensive classroom supplies list for the following year before summer vacation
  • Complete summer reading tasks as assigned
  • Knowledge of researched best practices to support student achievement
  • Contribute to student events – organization, administration, and supervision
  • Maintain teacher homework page in the LCA website (or similar) as determined from year to year
  • In relation to students, the teacher is expected to:

    Establish a climate of love and care, define responsible Christian behavior for students, including guidelines and consequences for good and bad behavior
  • Help students learn self-discipline through appropriate correcting, counseling, and role modeling
  • Maintain proper classroom discipline, take care of minor problems personally and referring major problems to the principal
  • Contribute to a positive and enjoyable working environment
  • Meeting regularly with assigned mentor teacher
  • Other duties as assigned
