Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Professor - Part-Time

Tacoma Community College seeks an innovative, student-centered part-time professor to join the Healthcare Pathway in Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

The part-time EMS professor is responsible for developing, preparing, and teaching courses across classroom, skills lab, and field settings, including EMT-Basic and Paramedic coursework.

The EMS program is an integral part of the Healthcare Pathway at TCC's main campus and offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the preparation of future EMS professionals while collaborating with a dedicated healthcare education team. This position reports directly to the Dean of Healthcare.

Part-time faculty are primarily responsible for student teaching and learning. To fulfill this responsibility within Emergency Medical Services (EMS) education, faculty will:

• Prepare and teach associate-level EMS curriculum, including EMT–Basic and Paramedic courses, in classroom, skills lab, clinical, and field settings
• Develop course syllabi, schedules, instructional materials, assessments, and evaluate student learning outcomes
• Collaborate with EMS program faculty, the Program Chair, and staff on curriculum development and continuous program improvement, incorporating current educational theory, research, and innovative instructional practices
• Employ inclusive, student-centered teaching strategies that support a diverse student population
• Foster a positive, professional learning environment that promotes student success and retention
• Supervise and advise students regarding didactic, skills lab, clinical, and field performance
• Provide clear, timely, and constructive feedback aligned with program standards and expectations
• Serve as a liaison with clinical and field training sites, as appropriate
• Identify instructional equipment and resource needs to maintain a current and effective learning environment
• Collaborate with EMS advisory committee members and community partners to ensure curriculum alignment with local industry standards and workforce needs
• Maintain regular office hours in accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement
• Utilize the college's learning management system (e.g., Canvas) and instructional technologies to support teaching and learning
• Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum review and design, campus committees, and division and college activities
• Engage in ongoing professional development, including Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives
• Meet applicable institutional and program accreditation standards and support overall college accreditation processes
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Current EMT-basic, AEMT, or Paramedic certification
• 3 years of recent full-time experience in Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
• Currently endorsed as a Senior EMT Instructor (SEI), or eligible to obtain endorsement within one year of hire
• Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software
• AHA BLS Provider Instructor certification, or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Teaching experience in the EMS field
