Career and Social Mobility has an outstanding opportunity for a Career Coach to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Career Development, this position will serve as a career coach for students and alumni. In addition, the Career Coach will develop, implement and assess outreach efforts in relation to academic majors, internships, careers and employment. This position will also work to achieve strategic initiatives aimed at developing and enhancing career-related programs and resources for students.

Key Responsibilities

Career Coaching (50%):

  • Counsel students and alumni individually and in groups concerning majors, career decisions, internship/job search strategies, networking, resume development, interview skills, salary negotiation, and graduate school planning.
  • Educate students on the development stages of their careers, including: administration and interpretation of career assessments, major discernment, exploration of the world of work, and the search for employment or graduate school.
  • Review and provide electronic feedback to students on career documents via email and Handshake.
  • Identify and promote technology resources aimed at assisting students with personal, career and academic exploration.

Career Education Outreach (25%):

  • Build collaborative relationships and serve as a point of contact and resource for students, advisers, and faculty on major and career related issues.
  • Leverage employer and community relationships to develop and present career education programs.
  • Develop and present programs and workshops for classes or student groups as requested. Identify campus-wide needs related to additional outreach opportunities in collaboration with faculty, staff and students.
  • Develop educational resources and oversee online learning resources.

Peer Career Coach Support (20%):

  • Provide professional development and guidance for Peer Career Coaches.

Other duties as assigned (5%).

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling or a related field from an accredited college or university and two years of career development experience.
Additional Qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellence in public speaking, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with the use of technologies such as social media (Facebook, Twitter) and professional media (Linked In, portfolio programs).
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to collaborate with constituents across campus and in the community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, student development, or a related area.
  • Knowledge of careers specific to Tacoma and the Puget Sound area.
  • Familiarity with all academic areas within the UW Tacoma.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging curricula for a wide range of ages and settings.
  • Experience and knowledge of career development theory and practice.
  • Experience using MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, and Clifton Strengths for Students assessments.
  • Experience and knowledge of evaluation and assessment methodologies.
Working Conditions

Some scheduling flexibility is required to accommodate schedules of students and campus/community partners, and to attend meetings, events, trainings and conferences on and off campus.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details Pay Range Minimum:

$54,072.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$60,000.00 annual
