Position SummaryTCC, winner of 2020 Association of Community College Trustees Equity Award for the entire Pacific Regions, invites you to apply for the position of Part-Time Sociology Professor. This part-time position faculty position includes teaching sociology courses and supporting the on-going programs of Tacoma Community College. This position may be responsible for preparing and teaching face-to-face, online and hybrid courses for the Education, Social and Behavioral Science division.
This position reports to the Dean for Education, Social & Behavioral Sciences.
- Prepares and instructs possible in person, online and hybrid modalities, transfer level classes in the discipline of Sociology. Candidate will initially be assigned to teach SOC& 101 Introduction to Sociology.
- Utilizes the college LMS, Canvas, for additional course-related engagement across all course modalities (in person, hybrid and online)
- Provides course-related communication, consulting and support via scheduled office hours and email accessibility.
- Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities. Follow established procedures in areas such as submitting syllabi, grades, bookstore orders, and other related administrative procedures.
- Participate in the college's professional development and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion events.
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Sociology from an accredited college or university.
- Experience teaching sociology at the community college level.
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience in a diverse environment, engaging in activities that promote equity and the success of underrepresented students.
- Enthusiasm for cultural diversity in the curriculum and the classroom, and reflection on how this manifests particularly in teaching sociology.
- Experience and a demonstrated commitment to supporting a learning environment that prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racist practices.
- Graduate course work in sociology.
- Experience with teaching methods that incorporate technology and online course development.
- Competence to teach college-level Sociology courses.
- Competence to teach students of widely varying levels of proficiency and from diverse backgrounds, abilities and learning styles.
- An appreciation of diversity and the benefits of a commitment to cultural awareness and sensitivity in the workplace.
- Commitment to teaching a curriculum which addresses cultural diversity.
- Ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgement.
- Professional and courteous interactions with students, faculty, and staff.
- Flexible in the ability to achieve the instructional and general responsibilities of the position.
- Dynamic, non-traditional delivery methods to teach students of widely varying levels of proficiency and from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles.
- Commitment to remaining current in the discipline.
