Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8am-3:30pm

Salary Level: PA4 $ 29.50 - No degree

PA4 $ 30.25- AA degree

PA4 $ 30.50- BA/BS or higher degree

SOTA maintains strong partnerships with the University of Washington Tacoma, the Museum of Glass, and the Tacoma Art Museum. Teachers work with museum educators, artists, and professors to enrich instruction through community-based learning.

SOTA is an arts-focused high school integrating visual and performing arts with core academics in a vibrant downtown setting. Students pursue specialized pathways in the arts alongside rigorous courses in English, social studies, science, math, and Spanish.

This position provides one-on-one assistance to a Grade 9 male student with a disability in all school activities and day-to-day needs during the school day; assists a certificated teacher with instructional and non-instructional activities for the assigned student and other classroom students as time permits.

This position requires completion and attaining of the state mandated General Para educator Certificate. The Para educator Certificate Program offers statewide standards-based training for all para educator/Education Support Professionals (ESP), and supports a career growth ladder for those who wish to advance their career as a para educator or pursue a teaching profession.

Staff will be required to complete 28 hours of training on the Fundamental Course of Study provided by the district. The first two days of FCS training will be required to be completed within four months of the date of hire, and the second two days within six months of the date of hire, or by September 1 of the next school year.

The general certificate is then earned by a para educator who completes ten days (70 clock hours) of professional development training.

This position assists a certificated teacher with instructional and personal care needs for students with a broad range of disabilities, including medically fragile, orthopedically impaired, developmental, physical, and/or behavioral.
