Position Overview:

The University of Washington Tacoma’s School of Education announces an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Teacher

Education:

Specialization inK-8 Critical Literacy. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. This is a full-time (100% FTE) faculty position with an expected start date of September 16, 2027. The initial appointment will be for a three-year term, eligible for reappointment after successful academic review.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and mentor students from varying backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences

Compensation:

The base salary range for this position will be $9,619 to $10,004per month ($86,571 to $90,036per 9-month academic year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Additional compensation affiliated with this recruitment may include a one-time relocation allowance and/or start up professional funds, if applicable. Position

Description

All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to perform highly effective and inclusive teaching, using a variety of pedagogical techniques and technologies, in an urban-serving campus environment. Faculty at UWT are expected to teach in multiple modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid courses.

The expected teaching load for this position is set at a level equivalent tosix (6) standard courses per academic year.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach in one or more of the following subject areas:
Reading, Literacy, English Language Arts;
English language development;
Linguistics;
Humanities;
Teacher preparation. Additionally, this position is expected to successfully mentor undergraduate and graduate students with diverse experiences and backgrounds, in an academic setting.

The successful candidate will also be expected to perform research and service in the candidate’s area of expertise. This will include the development and maintenance of a rigorous scholarly agenda and actively participating in unit-specific activities such as accreditation, assessment, curriculum development, and program reviews. Additional service expectations include mentoring students, participating in school and campus committees, and maintaining external relationships with communities, school partners, and state-level professional organizations.
