Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a dedicated professional to join their team. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The full-time equivalent (FTE) is 0.8, with 6 hours per day. The salary level is based on preparation level and experience per TEA Collective Bargaining Agreement, ranging from $75,462 (BA+0 step
1) through $147,998 (MA+90 step 20). The position includes 182 workdays, 10-month, and is under the union agreement for teachers. This job offers the full range of benefits provided by Tacoma Public Schools.

This position involves planning, organizing, and providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. It supports the school, board, district, and state curriculum, policies, and initiatives for student achievement.

Essential job functions include:

• Developing, planning, and strategizing a program of study based on student learning needs and individual abilities.
• Assessing student growth regularly and providing progress reports as required.
• Striving to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
• Establishing norms for learning and preparing lesson plans with clear objectives.
• Maintaining open lines of communication with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
• Maintaining accurate records and using data to adjust instruction.
• Taking precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Other job duties include:

• Participating in professional development activities and training.
• Attending staff meetings and serving on committees.
• Developing and maintaining professional relationships with colleagues.
• Keeping updated on curriculum guides and resources.
• Performing related duties as assigned.

Conditions of the job include working in a confined area, securing a substitute for breaks, handling difficult situations, exposure to high noise levels, and physical requirements such as lifting, bending, and mobility.

Education and experience requirements include a bachelor's degree from an accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement or a combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and skills. Licenses and special requirements include a valid Washington State teaching certificate, completion of all district-required trainings, and successful background clearances.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include knowledge of Washington State and Federal rules and regulations, subject matter knowledge, skills in various assessments, instructional principles, communication, critical thinking, attention to detail, classroom management, customer service, planning, organization, coordination, technology use, judgment, flexibility, confidentiality, attendance, physical capabilities, and establishing effective working relationships.
