Controls Engineer – Tacoma, WA

Kodiak is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our Tacoma-based engineering team. This position is responsible for the design, programming, installation, and commissioning of complex commercial and industrial HVAC control systems. The ideal candidate brings 10–15 years of experience in HVAC controls or building automation, demonstrates strong leadership and technical expertise, and maintains a high standard of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction throughout each project.
Responsibilities- Design, program, and commission HVAC control systems for new construction and retrofit projects.
- Create detailed control drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operation.
- Select appropriate control components and ensure compliance with all codes and specifications.
- Coordinate with project managers, technicians, and subcontractors to meet project schedules.
- Perform system startup, testing, troubleshooting, and calibration.
- Conduct site surveys and assist with equipment layout and integration.
- Provide training to owners and end users upon project completion.
- Support standardization of control design and programming practices.
- 10–15 years of HVAC controls or building automation experience.
- Proficient in DDC systems, control theory, and HVAC integration.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
- Proficiency in CAD, Microsoft Office, and project management software.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- 06A Electrical License or trainee card (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
- OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, and fall protection certifications preferred.
