Tacoma Power's Power Management team is looking for a Senior Energy Management Engineer to develop and deliver energy programs for commercial and industrial customers. The role involves advanced engineering activities, stakeholder engagement, and program management to help customers meet their energy goals and support Tacoma Power’s strategic and compliance objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare energy calculations for commercial and industrial customer facilities, including refrigeration systems, industrial processes, compressed air, water and wastewater systems, HVAC, pumping and ventilation, motors and drives, lighting, and domestic water systems.
  • Review calculations and energy simulation models, evaluation reports, and proposals prepared by consultants and external partners.
  • Provide specifications, recommendations, and engineering analyses, including economic analyses of energy efficiency alternatives, load management, and billing/rate impacts.
  • Develop detailed measurement and verification protocols and evaluate the energy performance of installed efficiency projects.
  • Conduct field audits and inspections, interacting directly with customers and trade allies such as engineering firms.
  • Perform complex energy analyses using large datasets, develop statistical and regression models, quantify project and program impacts, and create analytical tools and performance metrics.
  • Research and develop reports on new technologies for mechanical systems, products, and processes relevant to commercial and industrial energy systems.
  • Partner with program managers in cross‑functional teams to improve program workflows, develop quality‑control practices, create and test technical tools, and support training efforts that ensure consistent and accurate delivery of customer energy programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a directly related field (Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering desired).
  • 4 years of progressively responsible professional‑level engineering experience.
  • Relevant education and experience may substitute for one another on a year‑for‑year basis.
