Intermediate Consultant – Commissioning

WSP USA, an award‑winning and innovative multi‑disciplinary engineering consulting firm, seeks an Intermediate Consultant – Commissioning for its West offices. Locations include Seattle, WA; other West locations may be considered.

WSP works closely with architects and owners on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment. The successful candidate will execute building commissioning processes (new, retro‑fit, continuous), conduct energy audits and building retrofit applications, support sustainability certification applications, and apply measurement‑and‑verification techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute standard building commissioning processes for new and existing construction following ASHRAE guidelines.
  • Perform engineering design reviews for commissioning‑related activities.
  • Support acquisition of building sustainability certifications (LEED, Energy Star, etc.).
  • Scope work across mechanical, plumbing, electrical distribution, lighting, and specialty systems including fire alarm, security, nurse call, renewable energy, and other advanced control systems.
  • Conduct meetings, coordinate schedules, and prepare reports with proficient communication and organization skills.
  • Demonstrate self‑driven impact, self‑stewardship, and professional honor in work.

  • Ability to travel part of the time.
  • Strong follow‑through, quality control, and prioritization.
  • Aspiration to attain certifications such as Cx, LEED, and PE.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant years of related experience.
  • 1–3 years of post‑education experience in building or systems commissioning.
  • Familiarity with commissioning principles, practices, and design/build processes.
  • Experience with building planning, design, and installation management, including renovation and new design.
  • Knowledge of smart building design or MEP construction systems or building control systems.
  • Familiarity with building technology/system installation, construction laws, codes, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with sound judgment and decision‑making ability.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Coachability, self‑led learning, and readiness to absorb knowledge from senior Cx agents.
  • Self‑leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Independent work with minimal supervision and teamwork to meet objectives.
  • Basic proficiency in technical writing, office automation, spreadsheets, and related tools.
  • Design‑drawing reading skills in mechanical, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Willingness to work occasional extended hours to meet project deadlines.
  • Possible travel based on project requirements.

Compensation

Expected salary (all locations): $84,500 – $105,600. WSP reserves the right to adjust compensation based on education, experience, and geographic location.
