$150,000–$165,000/year + vehicle allowance + discretionary bonus
We are seeking a resourceful Mechanical Design Engineer with broad knowledge of HVAC and related systems to support commercial and industrial projects in the Tacoma area.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving real problems, working with cross-functional teams, and turning field needs into practical design solutions. You will partner closely with Sales and Project Managers, contribute to system design from concept through completion, and help ensure projects are accurate, code-compliant, and ready for installation.
This is not a remote position. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Tacoma, WA, or be willing to relocate before their start date.
What You’ll Do- Work with Sales and Project Managers to deliver timely field-related design solutions
- Analyze customer specifications and performance requirements to determine mechanical designs
- Assist with budgets, pre-contract designs, and presentations
- Participate in all aspects of the system design process, including research, load calculations, system sizing, layout, component sizing, and equipment selection
- Manage projects with internal and external deadlines and shifting priorities
- Design construction-required details for installation
- Ensure code requirements are met and provide information needed for permit applications
- Produce O&M manuals, commissioning documents, and other project closeout materials
- Perform site surveys to verify details needed for complete and accurate design
- Monitor design standards and support quality control practices
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in HVAC or the construction industry
- Plumbing design experience preferred, but not required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- CAD experience required;
Revit experience is a plus - Solid understanding of HVAC principles and technical applications
- Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and equipment specifications
- Knowledge of applicable HVAC laws, codes, and regulations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving, organization, time management, and relationship-building skills
- Valid driver’s license
- PE license preferred, but not required
Salary range: $150,000–$165,000 per year
Additional compensation: vehicle allowance, discretionary bonuses
