Position is Grant Funded.

Must be available for all shifts, including evenings, weekends, holiday, and/or overtime due to the 24/7 operation of the facility.

Please make sure that you meet the minimum requirements for our Corrections Officer position:

General

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age upon hire.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have no felonies
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen prior to hire and randomly throughout employment which includes:
    Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Bezodiazepines, Cocaine, Marijuana, Methadone, Methaqualone, Opitaes, PCP, and Propoxyphene.
  • Entry level candidates must be able and willing to attend the Police Academy at the FLETC testing center in Artesia, New Mexico, which is a 6-week program.

Criminal Disqualifiers:

  • Must not have pleaded guilty or been convicted of a felony offense.
  • Must not have pleaded guilty of been convicted of a misdemeanor offense.
  • Must not be the current subject of an administrative or internal affairs investigation.

Important: A written exam, PAT (1.5 miles run), and pre-psychological suitability assessment exam is required prior to the oral board/interview.

Please schedule your PST written exam as soon as possible. The Puyallup Tribe will cover the cost of your exam. When checking out, use the coupon code: PTPDFREE. Candidates have the option to purchase out-of-pocket a combo study guide and practice test for $28. Separately, the study guide is $21 and the practice test is $13. These study materials are not paid for by the Puyallup Tribe.

You will be able to complete your application online and select the testing date (virtual testing requires video/camera) and/or location most convenient for you.

After the application period ends, you will receive an email from our recruitment team. Please expect an email from an address ending in "puyalluptribe-nsn.gov."

It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure a timely response. If a candidate cannot be contacted after three (3) contact attempts or approximately three (3) weeks, they will automatically be disqualified and may reapply after six (6) months.

Position Summary

Provides care and custody of inmates and maintains order and discipline among the inmates within the Puyallup Tribal Restorative Correctional Facility, a minimum-security facility, by enforcing the standards, rules and regulations governing the operations of the detention/correctional facility and programs, and the confinement, safety, health and protection of inmates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operates the minimum-security corrections facility on a 24-hour 7 day a week basis and observes and maintains quality control of inmates by performing welfare checks every thirty minutes.
  • Upon admission, provides inmates with an orientation into the facility's philosophy and rules.
  • Ensures that inmates are released from the facility according to established regulations and operational descriptions.
  • Ensures that document packages for inmates are in order and exit documents for departures are correct. Is responsible for total welfare and safeguarding of the inmate and his/her belongings during transport and delivery.
