The Pierce County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for entry-level Deputy Sheriff.
Hiring Incentive
: $10,000 for entry level Deputy Sheriff.
Entry-Level: Lateral candidates need not take written exam. If you are a commissioned law enforcement officer and interested in a lateral opportunity, please contact Pierce County Civil Service at pccivilservice.
Lateral Hire: $25,000 hiring incentive, 80 hours sick leave immediately, 80 hours vacation after 6 months.
Public Safety Testing will use a new written exam starting March 1, 2025.
* The current test scores are accepted until February 28, 2025. If you have not scheduled a test, please do so after March 1, 2025.
We encourage you to apply now so you do not have to retest.
- In‑person written exam administered at PST test sites throughout the Pacific Northwest (may include free, same‑day PAT).
- If you passed the LEO written exam and PAT within the past six months, you may add the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office under certain conditions. Check your PST account under "New Positions."
- Background process requires passing a physical ability test (PAT) that includes sit‑ups, push‑ups, squat thrusts, 300‑meter sprint and a 1.5‑mile run. Refer to qualifications below.
- Written Examination – Required. Score ≥70% to qualify; scores
