Join our Behavioral & Emotional Health Program as a Health Promotion Coordinator III‑Opioid Task Force Coordinator. This is a Full‑time (1.0 FTE), Project position through December 19, 2027. This position will lead Opioid Task Force work for Pierce County.
Under the guidance of the Behavioral and Emotional program manager, the incumbent will lead various activities to develop, implement, and evaluate substance misuse prevention and treatment efforts, primarily through the Opioid Task Force. This role involves collaborating with Department interdisciplinary teams, community groups, elected officials, agencies, health providers, businesses, and regional partners to address public health issues related to opioid use.
This is an advanced professional classification that is responsible for developing and gaining support for prevention strategies, policies, and systems as they relate to high‑visibility and high‑impact community health promotion activities. Work includes providing expertise to government agencies, community organizations and coalitions, internal and external partners, and leading and representing the Department in regional, state, and federal initiatives. This position may also serve in a lead capacity, directing and reviewing work of other staff within the program.
DistinguishingCharacteristics
This position is the fourth level of the Health Promotion Coordinator (HPC) series. An employee assigned to this classification works independently with minimal direction from their supervisor. The HPC III serves as a subject‑matter expert (SME) in assigned program areas and provides consultation to staff, outside partners, and the public. This role may lead the work of other HPCs and volunteers in assigned programs.

- Provides leadership, consultation, and expertise to directors, managers, other staff, and community partners to facilitate community health promotion programs, policies, curricula, campaigns, and initiatives.
- Builds strong community relationships to facilitate support for county, regional, and state level community health promotion efforts.
- Participates in the development and implementation of strategic direction and tactical work plans. Develops, coordinates, and monitors community plans detailing objectives, tactics, time frames, and budget requirements for various health programs and projects using evaluation and quality improvement tools.
- Develops and presents reports, proposals, and presentations to Department leadership, Board of Health, community organizations, and the public.
- Serves in a lead capacity to Health Promotion Technicians, HPC I, and HPC II, acting as a mentor, coach, and subject‑matter expert. Assists the supervisor in prioritizing and managing the day‑to‑day work of the team.
