** Job Summary and Responsibilities*
* As a Medical Coder, you will ensure precise communication with insurance companies so that services are documented correctly and payments are processed efficiently.

Every day you will accurately translate patients' medical records into standardized codes for diagnoses and treatments. Using your expertise and training, you will ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards.

To be successful in this role, you must combine accuracy and attention to detail with a strong knowledge of coding standards and healthcare regulations. Clear communication with providers and staff, along with efficient management of records, ensures claims are processed correctly and on time.

+ Scans, indexes, organizes, and maintains electronic medical records and correspondence in the EMR according to established procedures and HIPAA/privacy requirements.

+ Reviews and processes requests for medical information from patients, providers, insurance companies, and other authorized third parties, ensuring compliance with applicable policies and regulations.

+ Verifies authorizations and accurately documents requests, patient information, dates of service, and release details within the appropriate EMR systems and work queues.

+ Coordinates the retrieval, preparation, copying, and transfer of medical records, including responding to requests from outside facilities and the Regional Billing Office.

+ Monitors work queues, responds to phone calls and inquiries, communicates request status and turnaround times, and resolves outstanding documentation or record issues.

+ Performs routine quality audits of scanned and indexed documents, corrects discrepancies, and generates reports to support compliance with established quality and completion standards.

* + Completion of medical record technology program or medical terminology and/or basic computer application courses.
