The Business Intelligence Coordinator supports the Business Services Division by administering District data systems, performing data analysis and reporting, and contributing to data governance and process improvement initiatives. This position consolidates key business intelligence responsibilities from various administrative roles into a centralized technical support function. The role emphasizes data integrity, reporting accuracy, application support, and documentation to ensure reliable information is available for operational, financial, and strategic decision‑making across the District.

Supervision

This position supervises the Business Intelligence Specialist.

Data Infrastructure & Governance
  • Assist with maintaining the District’s data warehouse, repositories, and metadata structures.
  • Develop data pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into data warehouse environments.
  • Compile, clean, validate, and standardize data from multiple internal and external sources to ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality.
  • Support implementation of data governance standards, guidelines, and digital record integrity practices.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including system documentation, data dictionaries, and process maps.
  • Participate in testing, acceptance, and evaluation of new systems, modules, and enhancements.
Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Develop, update, and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using BI tools such as Power BI, SQL, and Excel.
  • Support analytical work for operational, financial, compliance, and strategic initiatives across the District.
  • Prepare required reporting for internal management and external regulatory agencies, including NFIRS, Washington State Cares, Pierce County, and others.
  • Respond to ad‑hoc data requests and provide decision support for District leadership.
Application & End‑User Support
  • Administer and support District software applications used for data management, reporting, and business intelligence functions.
  • Serve as liaison with IT staff and external software vendors to troubleshoot BI‑related issues and coordinate enhancements.
  • Provide technical assistance, troubleshooting, and user support for staff accessing dashboards, reports, and data tools.
  • Assist in developing user guides, job aids, and training materials to support effective use of BI resources.
Process Improvement & Documentation
  • Identify business process gaps and assist in developing improvement recommendations using data‑driven insights.
  • Contribute to process optimization and workflow improvements through analytics and cross‑departmental collaboration.
  • Document and maintain BI procedures, guidelines, governance practices, and compliance requirements.
  • Support District‑wide initiatives that rely on data quality, data governance, and reliable reporting.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support District data operations and business intelligence functions.
Education and/or Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Business, or a related field;
  • Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis, reporting or systems administration.

OR

  • Associate’s Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Business, or a related field;
  • Minimum of nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis, reporting or systems administration.

OR

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis, reporting or systems administration.

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Desired
  • Experience in a fire district/department.
