Position Overview: The Subcontract Manager plays a key role in supporting Vulcan Metals' production of high‑quality steel castings. This position is responsible for developing and executing sourcing, procurement, and supplier‑management strategies that ensure a reliable supply of machined castings and related services.
You'll partner closely with operations, engineering, quality, and finance to manage a network of suppliers across Washington, California, Utah, Texas, and British Columbia—optimizing material flow, controlling costs, and maintaining quality standards.
This role also oversees compliance with applicable FAR, DFARS, and defense‑contract flow‑down requirements tied to U.S. Department of Defense programs, ensuring all subcontracting activities meet regulatory and customer expectations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead sourcing strategies for subcontract machining, raw castings, and related manufacturing services.
  • Manage supplier relationships across multiple states and British Columbia to ensure reliable delivery and performance.
  • Negotiate pricing and contracts to support cost competitiveness and long‑term supply stability.
  • Coordinate with Production Planning to meet delivery schedules for machined castings and components.
  • Monitor supplier performance, capacity, and lead times to prevent disruptions.
  • Partner with Quality, Engineering, and Operations to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Support new product introductions by identifying and qualifying capable suppliers.
  • Develop contingency sourcing plans to mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Maintain purchasing documentation, supplier metrics, and leadership reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, and required flow‑down clauses for defense programs.
  • Administer subcontracts and supplier agreements supporting U.S. Department of Defense requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure supplier adherence to traceability, certifications, testing, and documentation.
  • Maintain audit‑ready documentation and support internal, customer, and government audits.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with technical data protection, export control, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Manage supplier performance related to contractual deliverables and schedule adherence.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 year of experience in supply chain, procurement within manufacturing
  • Experience working with machined components, metal castings, or manufacturing preferred
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or defense-related manufacturing programs
  • Familiarity with FAR/ DFARS regulations and contract flow-down requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business or related field preferred
  • Strong negotiation, supplier management, and contract administration skills
  • Working knowledge of machining, fabrication, and metalworking processes highly desirable

Pay Range: $117,835-$147,293 Yearly (exempt)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm
