Shift Schedules- Swing shift: 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm
- Swing shift: 4:00 pm – 12:30 am
- Graveyard shift: 10:00 pm – 6:30 pm
- Spring and winter break (day shift): 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
Employees may be asked to work at two schools in one evening. Reliable transportation is required for travel between schools within a 30‑minute time frame. Bus or bicycle are not permitted. A valid Washington State Driver’s License is required.
Examples of DutiesThis position performs custodial maintenance duties including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms to assure clean and sanitary conditions.
Essential Job Functions- Sweep, mop, strip, polish floors; vacuum and spot‑clean carpets; empty wastebaskets into dumpsters; clean and empty trash cans.
- Dust and clean surfaces, walls, cabinets, furniture, fixtures; sanitize restrooms and kitchen including sinks, toilets, stalls, and dispensers; restock supplies as needed; lock doors after cleaning.
- Replace light bulbs and make minor repairs to building.
- Wash windows and mirrors; sweep sidewalks, stairs, and areas outside the building.
- Move and arrange equipment and furniture; set up tables and chairs; move packages; clean premises.
- Report building and equipment conditions and failures requiring repair or preventive maintenance.
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; maintain custodial supply rooms and equipment in a clean and orderly manner; perform routine maintenance to custodial equipment.
- Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- May oversee and/or assist with snow removal activities; assist in maintaining building exterior and grounds during inclement weather.
Job Duties
- Attend staff meetings to maintain current knowledge of safe and efficient maintenance and operation of equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis.
- Have regular, reliable, predictable attendance or physical presence; this is an essential job requirement.
Work involves considerable heavy physical work, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 lb; use of power equipment; operating in confined spaces and climbing ladders; working outdoors in inclement weather; exposure to chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent and one year of custodial work preferred; or any combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and ability.
Licenses/Special Requirements:
- Pre‑employment physical examination and medical history
- Criminal background check
- Washington State Driver’s License
- Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance
- Knowledge of custodial operations and related equipment.
- Skill in minor mechanical and equipment repair.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to demonstrate reasonable, reliable, and regular attendance.
- Ability to understand verbal instructions.
- Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the work.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects using proper equipment and safety precautions.
- Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural, diverse socio‑economic setting.
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor.
