Specialty Metals Department Supervisor – Eurofins Environment Testing in Tacoma, WA.
OverviewThe Specialty Metals Department Supervisor is responsible for supervising all department employees and providing technical expertise and leadership as needed. The position ensures compliance and integration of facility operation with corporate and regulatory policies and procedures. The Supervisor will support the Business Unit Manager (BUMA) in developing and executing the company and laboratory mission, vision, and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Leading, scheduling, and training of employees
- Ensuring adherence to the highest quality and efficiency standards in laboratory operations
- Ensuring coverage and performance
- Fostering positive morale and teamwork
- Demonstrating and promoting the company vision
- Exhibiting regular attendance and punctuality
- Managing the technical conduct, quality control, and related record keeping of all analytical evaluations performed
- Supervising, organizing, and coordinating all technical activities of personnel within the principles of sound scientific endeavors, business economy, and subordinate development
- Providing planning, organization, direction, and control to meet company goals
- Ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental programs and maintaining documentation
- Establishing and maintaining professional business relationships with clients, industry officials, and peers
- Assisting in marketing strategies, preparing technical work proposals, and supporting business expansion plans
- Supporting the Business Unit Manager in meeting department operational and financial goals and developing capital plans
- Overseeing daily operations including laboratory, quality, logistics, and management duties
- Representing the laboratory in technical meetings
- Participating with Sales/Marketing in preparation and quotation of major technical studies
- Proposing major investments to company executives
- Analyzing laboratory key operational and financial indicators (turnaround time, budget vs. actuals, labor and consumables costs, etc.)
- Verifying adherence to company employment policies and procedures
- Performing annual performance reviews for direct reports
- Handling employee relations per company guidelines with Human Resources support
- Coordinating interaction between laboratory departments and other labs sharing work with the Specialty Metals Department
- Understanding and following Quality System documents relevant to employment responsibilities; proposing and approving changes when required
- Conducting all activities in a safe and efficient manner
- Performing other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, or related field, or equivalent experience (two years directly related industry experience is equivalent to one full-time year of college in related major)
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience
- At least 5 years professional experience in laboratory operations, preferably in Specialty Metals, with proven improvement of operational, profit, quality and safety performance
- Ability to work with people, negotiate, analyze problems, and translate goals into actions
- Strong leadership, initiative, and teambuilding skills
- Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; self-motivation, adaptability, and positive attitude
- Ability to learn new techniques, manage multiple tasks, keep accurate records, and comply with company policies
- Ability to understand and analyze financial statements
- Ability to lead a lab through continuous improvement initiatives
- Experience in laboratory procedures, data analysis, and computer operations
- Experience in technical/business writing and giving oral presentations
- Strong technical and management background
- Ability to organize and lead laboratory personnel to optimize productivity and client satisfaction in a cost-effective manner
- Supervises multiple personnel of varying levels as outlined in the laboratory-specific organizational chart
- Familiarity with EPA methods and instrumentation: 1630, 1631, 1632, 200.8, 1640, 6010, 6020, 1311, 1312;
Instrumentation: CVAA, CVAFS, CV-GC-AFS, HG-CT-GC-AAS, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, HPLC-ICP-MS, ICP-MS/MS
This is a full-time position Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm with possible overtime and weekends.
Compensation: $32 - 40 /hour (DOE).
