Description
As a Consultant, you will lead a lane of work or be a Project Leader for a small project with lower complexity and stake. Consultants are responsible for managing the financial aspects of their projects and demonstrating effective client relationship management. Consultants regularly own tasks and create deliverables, delegating to others as appropriate. They are expected to regularly manage up with senior members of their team and leverage senior staff expertise to collaborate on deliverables.
Consultants regularly contribute to proposal development. Consultants are expected to be growing in their understanding of project management (to include financial management) and business development support (e.g., business capture efforts).
- Manage project lanes or small projects to completion (scope tasks and manage resources (i.e., time, budget, people); forecast and track financial performance and contribute to invoicing reviews and approvals)
- Develop and manage the production of high-quality client-facing deliverables
- Support the design, coordination, and logistics of external and internal meetings; apply active listening skills and contribute to knowledge capture during meetings
- Facilitate client meetings to achieve identified, desired outcomes
- Develop meaningful and trusted professional relationships with clients; serve as the point of contact for one or more clients in a lane or project
- Participate in business development and networking opportunities
- Contribute to proposal development (writing and coordination)
- Support and/or lead research, data gathering, and analysis to inform the development of client solutions; synthesize and present results clearly
- Showcase critical thinking skills to evaluate needs, make recommendations, and partner with team members to refine thinking and approaches to client challenges
- Onboard, train, and develop junior team members
- Active DoD Top Secret clearance (or have had one within the past two years)
- Bachelor’s degree
- 4+ years of professional work experience, preferably in management consulting or another professional service or client-facing environment
- Willingness and ability to travel to client sites in the surrounding DC and Baltimore metro areas; occasional travel outside of these regions could be expected (5%)
- Critical thinking/problem-solving skills, attention to detail, organization and time-management skills, and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Flexible and adaptable mindset to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced, high-stakes client environments
- Desired skills, experiences, and certifications: change management, strategic planning, strategic communication, program management, and/or organizational design experience; PMP and/or Change Management certification (ex.: Prosci)
The projected annual salary range for this position is between $73,667 and $103,133. Actual compensation and starting salaries are determined based on various factors, including the education, experience, knowledge, skills, certifications, and clearance level of the candidate, and internal equity. Once at The Clearing, movement through pay bands is based on performance. Base-annual salary is just one component of The Clearing’s total compensation philosophy and approach.

While performing duties of this job, an employee may be required to perform any, or all of the following: attend meetings in and out of the office, travel (sometimes extensively); occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand; communicate effectively (both orally and in writing); ability to effectively use computers and other electronic and standard office equipment;
