The Nurse Supervisor performs nursing work and provides clinical and operational guidance to nurses, clinical staff, professionals, and administrative staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality health care and health education services to members of the clinic and to the public as necessary.

This is an advanced professional classification that supervises clinical and/or non‑clinical staff under the general direction of a Clinic Coordinator or Program Manager as appropriate based on program or clinical setting. Employees in this classification are responsible for supervising, training, and developing diverse teams of staff. The position performs nursing work and provides instruction to nurses, clinical professionals, and administrative staff to ensure the delivery of quality health care and health education to the public.
Work includes all aspects of managing staff including coordinating work assignments, conducting performance evaluations, and handling disciplinary issues.
This is a stand‑alone classification, working under the direction of a Clinic Coordinator or Program Manager. The position is supervisory in nature and may also provide back‑up support to nursing and other medical staff as needed. Employees utilize independent judgement and consult with their immediate supervisor on the most complex and/or sensitive personnel and safety issues.

- Provide supervision and technical expertise to ensure that disease prevention, investigation, and management services and care are high‑quality and meet the Department’s statutory obligations.
- Coordinate and communicate with healthcare facilities, schools, businesses, and other partners to provide services, complete investigations, and offer technical assistance.
- Work with Program Manager and Division Director to develop team strategy, manage program contracts, and meet funding deliverables.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of nurses, clinical staff, professionals, and administrative employees in the assigned program.
- Direct staff work with a focus on achieving program, project, and department goals.
- Provide regular performance feedback to employees, including timely and thorough performance reviews and employee check‑ins.
- Manage staff with varied needs and personalities effectively.
- Handle interpersonal issues with discretion in a timely manner and in a manner that minimizes future conflict. Facilitate a cohesive work team.
- Partner with HR on the investigation and resolution of disciplinary matters. Issue discipline as needed.
- Ensure employees comply with Department policies and procedures, including policies around hours worked, ethics, time off, and harassment.
- Audit and approve employee’s timecards in a timely manner. Review and approve time‑off requests, taking into account staffing coverage and company policies.
- Mentor and coach staff, effectively developing direct reports. Ensure employees receive adequate training and cross‑training.
- Act as hiring authority and partner with HR on recruiting staff. Develop and implement training plans to ensure new staff are properly onboarded and trained.
- Allocate program resources (such as Department vehicles, training funds, purchasing dollars, etc.) among staff.
- Review and evaluate processes, applying quality tools and techniques for continuous improvement. Create process workflows and documentation.
- Forecast staffing needs and present them to the Clinic Coordinator or Program Manager.
- Provide backup support to nursing staff as needed.
- In non‑clinical settings, may provide support to the Program Manager.
