Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU (PICU) position at a Level 2 Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and proficiency in ventilator/trach management and critical care skills.
Responsibilities- 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week
- 16-bed PICU within an 82-bed Level 2 Trauma Center, with beds interchangeable between Med Surg and PICU
- Patient population includes respiratory cases (high-flow O2, CPAP, BiPAP), trachs, chemotherapy, RSV, asthma, COVID, MIS-C, new-onset diabetes with insulin drips, oncology, trauma (falls, MVAs), and surgical cases (appendectomies, g-tubes, ENT, VP shunts, cardiac, neuro)
- Unit does not handle solid organ transplants, major burns, stem cell transplants; severe facial/eye injuries and penetrating trauma are transferred to a Level 1 Trauma Center
- Non-cardiac ECMO and CRRT are performed on the unit (ECMO specialist manages the ECMO machine; Prismax used for CRRT)
- Floating may be required to Med Surg, NICU (low acuity), or as helping hands in the ED
- On-call only required in low census situations, with a 1-hour response time
- EMR:
Epic (experience preferred) - Coverage required for 1-2 holidays during the assignment
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Scrubs may be any color; hooded shirts are not permitted, and long sleeves must be rollable above the elbow
- During football season, Fridays are designated spirit days allowing appropriate team attire
- Clinical interviews conducted via Simpli Fi
- Active WA RN license or compact RN license currently in hand or pending (proof of pending application required)
- Current certifications: BLS and PALS
- Minimum 2 years of PICU or pediatric critical care nursing experience
- Proficiency in ventilator and trach management, suctioning, aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, drip management, and Foley insertion and management
- CRRT experience (Prismax preferred)
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must pass a Traveler Telemetry Competency assessment
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and time management skills required
- Minimum of one supervisor-level reference required; a second reference (charge nurse, manager, director, or above) required prior to start
