Work Schedule:

Part‑time; schedule is determined by the clinical placement need. Clinicals can be Monday‑Tuesday‑Wednesday‑Thursday‑Friday‑Saturday or Sunday, 8, 10, or 12 hours shifts, and day, evening, or night shift depending on the clinical placement.

General Description:

PLU maintains a part‑time nursing faculty pool in all areas of nursing specialties (Geriatrics, Medical/Surgical, Maternity, Mental Health, Pediatrics, and Simulation) for available assignments during the academic year. The PLU School of Nursing is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Instruction and Supervision
    • Provide hands‑on instruction and supervision to nursing students in clinical settings, ensuring the safe delivery of patient care and application of nursing theory to practice.
  • Student Performance Evaluation
    • Observe, assess, and provide timely, constructive feedback on students’ clinical skills, critical thinking, professionalism, assignments, and adherence to ethical and safety standards.
  • Role Modeling and Mentorship
    • Serve as a professional role model by demonstrating best practices in nursing care, communication, and teamwork; support students’ growth in confidence and competence.
    • Provide coaching and mentoring for students outside of class time if they need additional support or instruction to be successful.
  • Collaboration with Faculty and Clinical Staff
    • Maintain open communication with ABSN program coordinator, course coordinators, full‑time faculty, and healthcare facility staff to align clinical experiences with course outcomes.
  • Documentation and Compliance
    • Accurately document student attendance, clinical hours, and performance evaluations in accordance with program policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., BON standards, FERPA ).

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and from a nursing education program that is accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education;
    OR a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and from a nursing education program that is accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education, and a graduate degree in a health or education related field from an accredited college or university.
