Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of pediatric critical care and a strong background in managing various complex medical conditions.

• Provide high-quality nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients, including those with respiratory distress, congenital heart defects, and post-operative care.
• Administer medications and manage intravenous (IV) therapies, including pain management through PCA and epidurals.
• Perform aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, and various procedures such as Foley catheter insertion and management.
• Manage care for patients with g-tubes and j-tubes, including feeding regimen adjustments and monitoring for complications.
• Utilize ventilators and tracheostomy management, including suctioning and respiratory therapies such as CPAP and BiPAP.
• Perform CRRT with experience in the Prismax system preferred; efforts to support core staff may be required.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to establish and implement patient care plans.
• Participate in discharge planning and provide necessary education to patients and families.

The position involves caring for a diverse patient population that includes:

• Respiratory patients (high flow, CPAP, BiPAP)
• Patients with tracheostomies, chemotherapy needs, RSV, asthma, and COVID-19.
• Medical cases such as MIS-C, new onset diabetes with insulin drips, and chronic illness.
• Trauma patients ranging from falls to motor vehicle accidents.
• Surgical interventions including appendectomies, g-tubes, ENT procedures, and bowel obstructions.
• Cardiovascular patients with congenital heart defects who require close monitoring.

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a PICU or related critical care setting preferred.
• Proficiency in aseptic and sterile techniques, as well as experience with ventilators and related medical equipment.
• Experience with managing complex care situations, including trauma, oncology, and respiratory diseases.
• Required certifications: BLS and PALS.

The position requires the willingness to work every other weekend and may involve floating to Med Surg, ED, or NICU as Helping Hands or Constant Observer. Shift times include both day and night shifts, and scrub colors are not restricted, but hooded shirts and long sleeves must be able to be pulled above the elbow.
