Position Summary
This part‑time hourly position provides instructional support services for science classes at the Gig Harbor Campus (GHC) and the main campus. The employee will prepare laboratory materials per faculty requirements, coordinate the use of lab equipment, and support the SEM academic programs. During off‑peak periods at the GHC, the employee may work at the Tacoma campus. The position reports to the Instructional Classroom Support Technician.
Responsibilities- Work with faculty and the lead technician to support instructional programming in biology.
- Set up and store reagents, equipment, supplies, or specimens for laboratory sessions.
- Coordinate laboratory activities and schedules with faculty and lab staff.
- Promote a safe laboratory environment and recommend supply and equipment purchases related to the instructional program.
- Monitor equipment for proper operation, needed repairs, and end‑of‑service replacement.
- Maintain laboratories, supplies, materials, and equipment clean, organized, and ready for use.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
- Experience maintaining and operating laboratory equipment such as microscopes and probes.
- Customer service experience.

- Safe handling and preparation of reagents.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
- The finalist will be subject to a criminal background check prior to the start of employment. Background check information will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis.
- Tacoma Community College does not sponsor an H‑1B visa and requires proof of authorization to work in the United States at the time of hire.
- Ability to report to either work site and provide own transportation.
- Ability to stoop, bend, squat, reach, use a step stool, and carry up to 20 lbs frequently.
This part‑time hourly position is bound by WAC 357‑04‑045 and provides a variable work schedule of 10–12 hours per week, with flexibility meeting course needs during business hours, Monday–Friday during the academic year and Monday–Thursday during the summer. The work location is Gig Harbor Campus or Building 15 on the Tacoma campus. Salary is $18.00 per hour.
