Food Bank Manager - Float

Purpose:

This position is responsible for all phases of food bank operations and is involved in the acquisition, maintenance, and distribution of food to customers in coordination with the Director of Operations. Ensures a compassionate, warm, and welcoming environment for customers and provides a positive working environment for volunteers. Demonstrates effective leadership and good public relations skills and the ability to use computer technology.

This position will float between all Nourish locations, including the warehouse, as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • This role is a back-up Food Bank Manager to provide coverage for vacations, sick leave, and other needs throughout the system. This position works alongside other food bank employees, warehouse staff, and volunteers. When not serving in a backup role, the Director of Operations will assign the individual to sites as needed.
  • Maintain a respectful, friendly, and cooperative environment where all are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect.
  • Manage relationships with assigned local food outlets, grocers, and other food distributors.
  • Create a clean and safe environment by following food and operations safety guidelines.
  • Ensure safety, maintenance and cleanliness of site including all food bank equipment and appliances.
  • Ensure grocery rescue and other local pick-ups are complete and in compliance with contract or donation guidelines. Provide additional back-up for all food pick-ups as needed.
  • Operate a forklift to unload incoming food donations, including weighing and recording all donated food, ensuring accurate database management. Sort and store all incoming food as applicable to food safety and FEFO standards.
  • Maintain and ensure that the food bank, vehicles, exterior areas, parking lots and restrooms meet or exceed sanitary and safety guidelines/regulations. Close and secure facility at end of shift as needed.
  • Regularly operate warehouse equipment including forklifts, walkie stackers, and pallet jacks.
  • Regularly drive personal vehicle between locations and Nourish vehicles, including box trucks, as needed.

In coordination with the Food Bank Manager and Director of Operations:

  • Train, manage, and supervise volunteers on the safe and proper use of equipment, food bank operations, and proper food handling techniques.
  • Create, manage, and run all necessary repacking operations with Food Bank volunteers ensuring a FIFO (first in first out) process is used.
  • Ensure that all volunteers are qualified, signed up for shifts, and checked into shift on volunteer database system.
  • Handle all customer interactions with respect and dignity.

Administrative Duties:

  • In coordination with the Director of Operations and other food bank managers, maintain inventory of all food and adhere to appropriate contract compliance, including monthly reporting
  • Create and maintain temperature logs for freezers and refrigerators. Record & post temperatures as applicable to all food safety standards.
  • Record and maintain confidentiality and accuracy of client & volunteer database as needed.
  • Attend and participate in internal and external meetings, conferences and training as assigned.

Other Duties as Assigned

Nourish Pierce County employees may be assigned tasks and duties outside of their ordinary responsibilities from time to time and are expected to comply with requests to perform other duties as assigned. These duties may include performing tasks at various Nourish Pierce County sites as assigned.

Essential Competencies

  • Must be able to perform basic math skills.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate orally in English.
  • To Drive Nourish Vehicles
    • Must have a valid Washington State Driver's license.
    • Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record.
    • Must be able to pass pre-employment and periodic drug screening.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, sit and lift overhead.
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate effectively with a broad and diverse audience including staff, volunteers, clients and vendors.
