Purpose of Position

Turret Technician/Systems Maintainer, responsible for maintaining and repairing the Stryker family of armored vehicles. This involves performing field-level maintenance, diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions, repairing mechanical and electrical systems, and ensuring the vehicles remain operational.

Special Emphasis

Perform operational and sustainment services for turret and fire controls systems.

Vehicle Maintenance

Perform field- and sustainment-level maintenance on the various Stryker vehicle systems, including suspension, steering, hydraulic systems, and engines.

Troubleshooting and Repair

Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions using advanced test equipment, technical manuals, and precision hand tools to repair and replace components.

System Support

Maintain and ensure the smooth operation of critical vehicle systems, including select armament systems.

Teamwork

Work as part of a team to support the mission by keeping these vital vehicles in top condition.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential)
  • Diagnoses and Repairs:
    Troubleshoot and fix problems with the tank's complex systems, including the turbine engine, transmission, electrical systems, hydraulics, and suspension.
  • Performs Maintenance:
    Conduct preventive maintenance, use specialized tools, and follow technical manuals to keep the tank in optimal condition.
  • Checks Systems:
    Inspect and maintain the fire control systems and conduct test-firings to ensure the weapons are combat-ready.
  • Works in Field

    Conditions:

    Support Army operations in the field, day or night, and may use recovery vehicles to assist with damaged equipment.
Skills and Training
  • Technical Expertise:
    Learn advanced skills in heavy equipment mechanics, electronics, and hydraulics.
  • Specialized Equipment:
    Become proficient in using various testing and repair equipment.
  • Problem‑Solving:
    Develop strong problem‑solving skills to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Training:
    Require Basic Combat Training (BCT) followed by an extensive Advanced Individual Training (AIT) program.
  • Complete reports timely and correctly.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ mechanical experience with heavy wheeled vehicles. Military vehicles a plus.
  • Must be able to obtain a positive adjudication of a NAC‑I background check.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with customers and co‑workers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Travel may be required to Yakima, WA, or Ft. Irwin, CA with the potential for long‑term travel.
  • Subject to ITAR regulations and access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal education/certificates in vehicle service repair.
  • 10 years’ military experience in vehicle maintenance.
  • The Army MOS 91S, or Stryker.
  • The 91A M1 Abrams Tank.
Physical and Other Factors
  • This position requires the ability to perform vehicle maintenance at any position, in, on, under, the vehicle.
  • Work environment is Maintenance Shop, but includes office area.
  • Must communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to complete computer generated reports and status documents.
  • Occasionally lifts/moves up to 50 pounds.
  • Position may require CONUS and OCONUS travel.
