Position: Experienced Striper / Striping Crew Member

Experienced Striper / Striping Crew Member

The Experienced Striper is a skilled member of the field crew responsible for performing high-quality parking lot striping and pavement marking work under the daily direction of a Foreman. This position builds on the core expectations of a Crew Member while requiring demonstrated experience operating striping equipment, completing parking lot layouts, applying pavement markings, and producing accurate, professional finished work.

Experienced Stripers are expected to understand the technical requirements of striping work, work efficiently with limited task-level direction, identify potential layout or quality concerns, and support less-experienced crew members in developing proper striping techniques. While the Foreman remains responsible for jobsite leadership, safety, and overall execution, the Experienced Striper serves as a skilled craft resource who helps ensure striping work is completed safely, efficiently, and to Rainier's quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Striping & Pavement Marking

  • Perform parking lot striping and pavement marking using commercial striping equipment and hand-applied methods.
  • Complete new layouts and restripes according to work orders, plans, existing markings, measurements, and Foreman direction.
  • Measure and establish parking stalls, drive aisles, curbs, crosswalks, fire lanes, loading areas, and other pavement markings.
  • Apply standard pavement markings, including parking stalls, directional arrows, lettering, numbers, curbs, crosswalks, and accessibility markings.
  • Set up, operate, clean, and perform basic troubleshooting of striping machines and related equipment.
  • Properly prepare surfaces and materials to promote clean application and a quality finished product.
  • Identify layout, surface, equipment, or application issues that could affect finished quality and communicate concerns before proceeding.
  • Assist with stencils, masking, chalk lines, snapping layouts, and other preparation required for striping operations.

2. Jobsite Preparation & Production Support

  • Assist with sweeping, blowing, cleaning, masking, layout, material staging, and other preparation necessary for striping operations.
  • Safely load, unload, stage, and secure striping equipment, paint, stencils, cones, and other materials.
  • Support traffic and pedestrian control necessary to protect fresh markings and maintain a safe work area.
  • Assist with other asphalt, concrete, or general Crew Member responsibilities as business and crew needs require.
  • Anticipate production needs and help maintain efficient workflow with minimal downtime.

3. Safety, Compliance & Worksite Control

  • Follow all company safety protocols, applicable regulatory requirements, product requirements, and Foreman direction.
  • Wear required PPE and safely handle paint, equipment, tools, and other materials used in striping operations.
  • Maintain awareness of vehicle traffic, pedestrians, moving equipment, and changing jobsite conditions.
  • Participate in daily safety huddles and hazard assessments.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas.
  • Report unsafe conditions, near-misses, equipment concerns, spills, or other hazards immediately.

4. Quality & Efficiency

  • Produce straight, consistent, appropriately spaced pavement markings with clean edges and professional appearance.
  • Demonstrate accuracy when measuring, laying out, and completing striping work.
  • Recognize existing conditions that could impact layout or finished quality and escalate discrepancies to the Foreman.
  • Minimize overspray, paint waste, rework, and unnecessary material usage.
  • Maintain a productive pace while protecting quality and safety.
  • Inspect completed work and proactively correct deficiencies within the scope of the role.
  • Demonstrate care for company equipment through proper setup, operation, cleaning, and storage.

5. Teamwork & Communication

  • Receive overall jobsite direction from the Foreman while independently executing assigned striping responsibilities.
  • Communicate clearly with the Foreman regarding layout questions, material needs, equipment issues, quality concerns, and job progress.
  • Work collaboratively with Crew Members and other field employees…
