Job Summary
Responsible for accurate receiving, storing, preparing and shipping orders of product. Requires knowledge of yard layout, products, forklift operation, and ability to assess load parameters for safe placement on flatbed trailers. Must handle contingency plans and work shift pattern as outlined by distribution needs.
Duties and Responsibilities- Inbound Freight:
Count all products, compare to manifest, inspect shipments for damage, infestation, and production code dates; sign for inbound shipment when necessary. - Report shortages, damages, and mis‑shipments on appropriate forms.
- Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations.
- Storage:
Maximize space usage and safely put away items into yard and onto racks; keep yard clean and clear of debris. - Order Picking:
Ensure correct number and type of product is picked; transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms with material handling equipment; stencil, tag, label, or mark orders as required. - Outbound Freight:
Compare quantity, labeling and address with order to ensure shipments are complete and correct; efficiently move product into or onto outbound delivery vehicles and accept signatures as necessary; ensure shipments contain no damaged or sub‑standard product. - Maintain equipment and assigned areas in a neat, clean and orderly fashion; operate equipment, handheld computers and power tools safely; perform daily inspections and maintenance checks on equipment.
- Maintain inventory organization and storage integrity; keep accurate records and reports; assist in physical inventories and cycle counts; ensure proper stock rotation and repair broken or incomplete units.
- Manually wrap products to prevent damage; maintain contact with management regarding shipping priorities and progress.
- Provide training and assistance to other shippers/receivers; contribute to shift meetings concerning goals, problems and accomplishments.
- Repack or re‑box cases as instructed; repair and re‑box damaged goods; operate shrink‑wrap machine if assigned.
- High school degree preferred.
- At least 6 months of distribution and warehousing experience or comparable experience.
- Forklift operation certification and safe operation skills.
- Ability to read, count accurately, perform basic math and write legibly; must pass basic math pre‑employment test.
- Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods; stand or sit for prolonged periods.
- Capable of lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Employee required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, and hear. Must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 25 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work EnvironmentNoisy environment (moderate). Work occurs indoors and outdoors, primarily outdoors. Exposure to weather conditions and use of PPE such as safety glasses, safety shoes, high‑visibility vest. Possible use of stairs, elevators. Exposure to fumes, chemicals, electrical shock, and vibration. Occasional air or auto travel may be required.
