Job SummaryAs a Shuttle Driver, you play a vital role in transporting empty trailers to operating company warehouse locations and delivering full trailers to domicile/shuttle yard locations. The driver operates a tandem trailer, tractor trailer, or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards. The position requires professional communication with customers, vendors, and coworkers, and may involve additional duties as needed.
Responsibilities- Perform all required safety checks, including pre- and post‑trip inspections per DOT regulations
- Report safety issues and needed repairs
- Follow DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines; report hazards immediately
- Inspect trailer for proper loading and secured freight
- Ensure all required route paperwork accompanies the tractor trailer load and is available upon dispatch
- Drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedule
- Perform hook and unhook procedures per safety guidelines
- Parks and stores tractor trailers in designated areas
- Secure equipment and freight; lock when not in use
- Collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns for return to base facility; complete necessary paperwork
- Unload all equipment, materials, and remove trash from trailers as required
- Maintain daily record of hours of service in accordance with federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clear and clean
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
- 6 to 12 months commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL A with Doubles Endorsement
- Minimum age 21 years
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
- Work required 3rd shift schedule, Sunday–Thursday nights (schedules may vary)
- Pass pre‑employment drug test
- Pass road test
- Valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure a new one
- Able to hand‑lift and utilize lift gate and/or other equipment to move/stack product cases/freight weighing approximately 60–90 pounds during shift
