Job Summary
This position is responsible for participating in law enforcement and public safety functions on an assigned campus of Northeastern State University.
Major Duties- Enforces federal, state, and municipal laws.
- Prepares and submits reports.
- Investigates criminal activities; interviews suspects and witnesses.
- Attends weekly and monthly meetings with administration and departmental officials.
- Patrols campus on foot, on bicycle, or in an assigned vehicle.
- Enforces traffic regulations and issues citations.
- Enforces parking regulations and issues parking citations.
- Utilizes camera systems to monitor campus activities.
- Assists faculty, staff, students, and visitors with locked vehicles and jump starts.
- Makes bank deposits.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of common law enforcement and criminal investigation procedures.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws.
- Knowledge of public safety principles as related to college campuses.
- Knowledge of the operation of and legal requirements related to law enforcement equipment.
- Skill in decision-making and proactive problem-solving.
- Skill in the completion of a variety of reports.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
The work consists of related law enforcement and public safety duties. The need to respond to unforeseen and potentially life‑threatening and dangerous situations contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to participate in law enforcement and public safety operations at an assigned campus. Success in this position contributes to the safety of university personnel, students, visitors, and property.
Physical Demands / Work EnvironmentThe work is typically performed outdoors or in a vehicle, intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking or running. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather or extreme heat. The work requires the use of specialized law enforcement and public safety tools and equipment, including the carrying of a firearm.
Minimum Qualifications- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Police Officer Standards and Training Certification for the State of Oklahoma.
- Ability to maintain required attendance.
