Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) – Contract

Type: Contract
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Overtime: No OT currently; may change based on unit needs
Call: 6 days/month, including 1 weekend/month
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and certified Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) to support surgical and clinical procedures at W. W. Hastings Hospital. The SPT will be responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, inspection, and preparation of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Clean, decontaminate, sterilize, assemble, and prepare surgical instruments and medical equipment.
- Prepare instrument trays, medical carts, supplies, gowns, and gloves for procedures.
- Perform manual, mechanical, and high-level disinfection (HLD).
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment.
- Perform steam and low-temperature sterilization.
- Inspect instruments and supplies for cleanliness, functionality, and expiration dates.
- Maintain accurate sterilization and equipment maintenance records.
- Handle general, laparoscopic, and flexible endoscopic instruments.
- Perform dental tray assembly.
- Identify and report equipment or sterilization issues.
- Maintain appropriate inventory and reorder supplies as needed.
- Properly handle and dispose of medical waste.
- Follow all hospital, infection-control, and sterile-processing procedures.
- Certified Sterile Processing Technician
- Minimum 1 year of certification
- CRCST/HSPA or CBSPD certification required
- AHA BLS required
- Strong experience with:
- Decontamination
- Instrument assembly
- Sterilization
- Surgical instrumentation
- Laparoscopic instruments
- Flexible endoscopes
- Steam and low-temperature sterilization
- Dental tray assembly
- Experience in an OR/sterile processing environment.
