Position Overview

Talladega College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Elementary Education
. The successful candidate will shape the future of the Elementary Education program by teaching, mentoring students, and contributing to curriculum and instruction development. This faculty position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarly activity, and service, focused on preparing future educators for success in diverse and inclusive settings.

Qualifications
  • Education: A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field (ABD candidates will be considered, but completion of the Ph.D. is required before appointment). Applicants’ credentials must be approved by the Alabama Department of Education.
  • Experience:
    • A demonstrated record of effective teaching at the undergraduate level, preferably in elementary education or a related field.
    • A proven track record of research and scholarly activity related to elementary education or teacher preparation.
    • Prior experience teaching in K-6 classrooms is highly preferred.
    • Previous leadership or administrative experience, such as program coordination, is a plus.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
    • A demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and the community.
    • A passion for preparing future teachers who are committed to excellence in education.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Leadership experience in education, such as curriculum development or serving in a departmental or programmatic leadership role.
    • Expertise in research related to elementary education, pedagogy, or the preparation of future teachers.
    • Experience integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into curriculum development and instruction.
    • Experience in developing or revising curriculum to align with state standards and best practices for teacher preparation.
Job Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Mentoring:
    • Teach undergraduate courses in elementary education, including child development, curriculum design, literacy, mathematics instruction, and classroom management.
    • Mentor and advise students pursuing a degree in elementary education, guiding them through academic and professional development.
    • Supervise and evaluate student teaching experiences and internships in K-6 classrooms.
    • Develop and update course materials and curricula to reflect current trends and best practices in elementary education.
  • Research and Scholarly Activity:
    • Maintain an active research agenda in elementary education or teacher preparation, focusing on improving educational practices or addressing current issues in K‑12 education.
    • Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at professional conferences.
    • Collaborate with faculty on research initiatives supporting the department's mission.
  • Curriculum and Program Development:
    • Contribute to the development and enhancement of the Elementary Education program, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, state guidelines, and student needs.
    • Engage in curriculum revisions to reflect contemporary educational practices and prepare students for diverse classroom settings.
    • Participate in assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes.
  • Service and Outreach:
    • Participate in departmental, college-wide, and university committees and initiatives.
    • Build relationships with local schools and school districts to create opportunities for internships, partnerships, and community outreach.
    • Promote the mission and vision of the Elementary Education program within the college and the broader community.
  • Student Recruitment and Retention:
    • Assist with recruiting and retaining students in the Elementary Education program through college fairs, recruitment events, and outreach activities.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve student success, retention, and graduation rates within the program.
