Job Summary
Georgia-Pacific is hiring Maintenance Technicians to join our Lumber facility in Talladega, AL.
Compensation and Benefits- Starting pay: $27-33/hr, depending on experience.
- Shift premium: $5.00/hour for hours worked Friday–Sunday (overtime rules apply).
- Opportunities to increase compensation based on skills and contribution to overall mill performance.
- Night Shift Sunday-Thursday, 6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.
- Orientation week: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday–Friday; regular shift assigned afterward.
- Flexible availability for any shift, including overtime, holidays, and weekends.

Responsibilities- Adhere to plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures; actively participate in the safety program.
- Support operations efficiency through troubleshooting and maintaining manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Perform periodic proactive asset strategies, such as maintenance routes and preventative maintenance, to improve reliability and uptime.
- Install and repair mechanical drives, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, belts, and couplings.
- Maintain and troubleshoot pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems, components, and circuits.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to identify and prioritize maintenance needs.
- Use pipe fitting skills to weld, cut, fit, and install piping throughout the facility.
- Assist operators or crew members with machine start‑up, shutdown, or clean‑up.
- Research parts in equipment manuals and submit work orders in a computerized maintenance management program.
- Communicate daily work performed and machine conditions via written and verbal documentation.
- Experience performing installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial equipment.
- Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems and components.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Associate degree or higher in Industrial Technology or related field AND at least 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, OR 5 years equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of precision alignment of motors, couplings, bearings, lubrication systems, and pumps.
- Mechanical maintenance experience with fluid handling, conveyor systems, hydraulic systems, accumulators, valve identification, and welding.
- Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS).
- Walk on elevated catwalks over 15 feet high to perform daily duties.
- Work in a non‑climate‑controlled mill, with dust, noise, and temperature variations.
- Perform tasks such as lifting (up to 50 lbs), walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to 12 hours/day.
