** Salary**: $90,Position Summary The Reinsurance Accountant is responsible for preparing and analyzing quarterly financial reports for complex reinsurance treaties, ensuring the accuracy of client-reported data, investigating reporting discrepancies, and communicating financial trends and risks to internal stakeholders. This role works closely with actuarial, finance, and audit teams and may provide leadership or mentorship to junior team members.
Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting
* Prepare and analyze quarterly financial reporting under Statutory, IFRS, and Solvency II frameworks for assigned reinsurance accounts.
* Investigate and explain reporting variances and fluctuations between reporting periods.
* Partner with actuarial teams to validate reporting assumptions and financial results.
* Prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations, and work papers for internal reporting and external audits.
* Consolidate and review financial data to support risk monitoring and business reporting.
* Support quarterly forecasting activities and reporting cycle deliverables.
* Review financial reporting prepared by junior team members, when applicable.
Reinsurance Cash Reporting & Analysis
* Develop a strong understanding of treaty provisions and reporting requirements.
* Analyze client-reported financial data to ensure accuracy and adherence to treaty terms.
* Identify and communicate financial risks, reporting concerns, or unusual trends to key stakeholders.
* Calculate and analyze experience refunds and loss carry forward activity.
* Maintain accurate documentation and reporting records within company systems.
* Perform trend analysis and reasonability checks on financial results.
* Review reporting prepared by junior staff, when applicable.
Problem Solving & Process Improvement
* Investigate reporting discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
* Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes and operational efficiency.
* Collaborate across teams to resolve reporting issues and outstanding action items.
* Assist with the resolution of complex accounting and reporting challenges.
Audit Support
* Prepare documentation and supporting analyses for internal and external audits.
* Respond to audit requests and provide quarterly reporting support.
* Assist with routine and ad hoc audit-related reporting and analysis.
Leadership & Collaboration
* Support finance leadership with reporting deliverables and special projects.
* Serve as a subject matter resource for less experienced team members.
* Lead or participate in cross-functional initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
* Manage and mentor direct reports, when applicable.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* 5+ years of accounting experience.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Access and Word.
* Experience using financial reporting systems such as Hyperion.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
* Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
* Accounting experience within the life insurance or life reinsurance industry.
* Experience working with regulatory and financial reporting frameworks including Statutory, IFRS, and/or Solvency II reporting.
* Prior leadership or supervisory experience.
