Learning Commons Specialist Opportunity

What You'll Do
This is a professional position involving tutoring and providing academic guidance to students of varying levels and competencies, developing online and hardcopy resources, mentoring and training OPS staff, and delivering services synchronously and/or asynchronously at varying levels that serve the needs of a post-secondary student population.
This performs responsible work involving the tutoring of students and performing related tasks. Duties include providing support to users involved in the Learning Commons Systems. The purpose of the Learning Commons Specialist is to provide resources, support, and instruction campus wide, with a focus on tutoring both synchronously and asynchronously to a variety of learners.
Specialists are knowledgeable in their content area and collaborate with other departments to encourage engagement with the resources and support available at the Learning Commons. This includes organizing and participating in campus events, classroom orientations, and embedded tutoring. Specialists also act as mentors to OPS employees, such as tutors and receptionists, building strong working relationships, conducting regular observations and reviews, and providing training to develop their professional skills.
The role involves using PC/Mac operating systems, printers, scanners, and other peripheral devices; assisting students with hardware/software-related issues; troubleshooting computer problems; and submitting IT help ticket requests for repairs. Specialists indirectly supervise OPS & Work-study Lab Assistants and are expected to remain technically up to date. They also advertise and instruct Technology Workshops covering systems such as Canvas, TSC Email, and Office 365 Pro Plus.
Additionally, the position includes training and implementing the use of applicable technologies hosted by and housed within the Learning Commons. Learning specialists focus on supporting students who struggle in the classroom, particularly those with learning disorders or behavioral challenges, and provide individual or small group assistance. An in-depth understanding of the principles of financial and managerial accounting, educational best practices, and educational technology, including AI, is mandatory.
Day-to-day, you'll be responsible for:
* Provides synchronous and asynchronous instructional and learning assistance to individual students, groups, classes, and/or special populations with varying skills and abilities.
* Be available on the floor approximately 28 hours to provide learning assistance.
* Works with faculty across divisions to develop programs, resources, materials, and projects.
* Create updated resource materials for math courses.
* Assesses student work, interprets diagnostics, makes recommendations, and maintains student records.
* Conduct assigned orientations, class visits, workshops, embedded tutoring, and/or tours to promote the Learning Commons.
* Develops and leads training for Learning Commons' staff.
* Engages in Learning Commons staff initiatives and serves on Learning Commons committees to support the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the college.
* Provides support and oversight of part-time staff.
* Mentor OPS employees, conduct in-person and virtual tutor training sessions, and assist in guiding OPS employees through the CRLA certification process.
* Collaborates with faculty and other educational professionals across departments and divisions to develop programs, resources, materials, and projects.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
Who We're Looking For
We're seeking a candidate who brings not only technical expertise but also a passion for education and student success. An in-depth understanding of accounting principles, educational best practices, and educational technology, to include AI, is mandatory.
Our ideal candidate will have:
* A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a discipline related to the assigned area of responsibility.
* Two (2) years of experience in learning assistance and/or teaching; or a combination of education and/or experience.
* A Master's degree may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
