Position: Visiting Professor of Practice (16876)
Florida A&M University's School of Architecture and Engineering Technology is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Visiting Professor of Practice vacancy.

Responsibilities

The Professor will participate in scholarly, professional, and research activities, including:

Teach undergraduate and graduate design studios;
Teach lecture courses and seminars in an area of expertise;
Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, building technology, architectural history, architectural theory, urban design, or professional practice;
Develop community engagement that can secure external funding;
Provide service to the School and University and contribute to program development;
Provide exceptional customer service to all students as SAET faculty member;
Complete all school- or university-related meeting requests;
Seminars, workshops, trainings, and other notices as necessary; and, other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Qualifications

A NAAB-accredited Architecture degree or its international equivalent. Two years of full-time architectural teaching experience as the faculty of record. Five years of professional experience. Professional license to practice architecture.

Recommended Competencies

Demonstrate commitment to innovative, student-centered pedagogy to work closely with students both inside and outside the classroom;

Ability to teach both introductory and advanced architecture courses.

Preferred Qualifications

A NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture degree, its international equivalent, or an advanced degree at the Doctorate level;

Four years of full-time architectural teaching experience as the faculty of record;

Five years of professional experience as a licensed architect;

Demonstration of excellence in community engagement;

Demonstration of the ability to secure external funding; and,

Demonstration of the ability to produce peer-reviewed scholarship.

Anticipated Salary Range

Commensurate with education and experience.

Licenses and Certifications

Professional license and/or Ph.D. is highly-desirable, as is previous design studio teaching, peer-reviewed research (peer-reviewed publications, externally-funded research, and/or other evidence of scholarly production), and/or professional experience. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide-range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the excellence of the academic community.

Pay Plan

This is a Visiting Faculty position.

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education. An official college transcript, a high school diploma, or other educational documents must be submitted, where applicable, at the time of employment.

Only United States (U.S.) citizens or aliens who have a legal right to work in the U.S. are eligible for employment. Federal law requires proof of your authorization to work in the United States. You will be required to provide proof of your identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of employment.

Section 110.1128, Florida Statutes, prohibits employment by the State (including re-hire after a break in service) of any male born after October 1, 1962, who failed to register with the Selective Service System, under the provisions of the U.S. Military Selective Service Act, during the person's period of eligibility (ages 18 through 25). Additionally, if currently employed by the State, this law prohibits the promotion of such person.
